Side Hustles for Moms vs Stay at Home Mom Jobs vs Online Business Ideas

If you’re looking for real ways moms can make money, first think about this:

Do you want a side hustle or a work at home mom job? Or do you want to try starting a business from home instead?

Side Hustles for Moms

There can be a big difference in terms of:

  • How much time you’ll put in
  • Whether you’ll need to invest any money upfront
  • What kind of skills you need
  • How much money you can make
  • Whether you need money desperately or can give a business or side hustle time to grow
  • What your schedule will look like

Out of the three, I lean more toward side hustles for women and moms or starting an online business.

Why?

Because having a side hustle or running a business online can give you more flexibility than you might get with a work-at-home job.

A flexible schedule matters when you have smaller kids at home with you all day. In that case, you might be looking for summer side hustles you can do online.

And even if your kids are in school being able to work on your own terms means you don’t have to miss out on helping with homework or attending extracurricular activities.

You might be able to make more money with side hustles for moms, too. And that’s a plus if you’re working on some major financial goals as a family.

But that doesn’t mean you should count stay at home jobs for moms out altogether. In fact, I suggest checking out some of the best at home jobs for moms to help you find the best fit for making extra money.

Finding ways to make extra money from home is a no-brainer if you’re a stay at home mom or want to become one.

Here are some real ways moms can make money online with minimal investment. (#1 & #2 are my personal favorites!)

1. Start a blog

Blogging is easily one of the most popular side hustles for moms who want to make money from home.

You can make money blogging through:

  • Sponsored posts
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Digital or physical products
  • Ads
  • Offering a service, like freelance writing or Pinterest management

If you want to start a blog, you just need a domain name and web hosting. And of course, a great idea for what to blog about!

In terms of money-making potential, making an extra $500 per month is an achievable goal, although there are some bloggers out there making 10, 20 and 30 times that.

Sound good? Check out this FREE guide on how to start a blog and make money from it.

2. Become a freelance writer

Freelance writing was the second side hustle I tried and it’s since become my full-time business.

What’s great about freelance writing is that as side hustles for moms go, it’s one that requires no experience. You don’t need a journalism degree or business experience to make $500, $1,000, even $10,000 or more every month.

Plus, freelance writing is extremely flexible which is great if you need a side job you can do around your kids’ schedules.

I easily made $500 to $1000 a month as a VA working less than 10 hours a week, so I know this can be a great side hustle for moms to make money online.

Dropshipping is a way to make money selling things online without actually have to maintain a physical inventory.

Here’s how it works in a nutshell:

  • You set up a storefront online through a site like Amazon or Shopify.
  • Someone buys something from your storefront.
  • Your supplier ships the item out to your customer.

This could be a perfect online business option if you’re looking for something with basically zero startup costs.

59. Start a laundry service

Doing laundry isn’t my favorite chore. But doing someone else’s laundry or dry cleaning is a genius side hustle for moms who want to make easy money in their spare time.

You can set up a mobile laundry service that offers pickup and delivery. I know a homeschool mom who does this to make extra money.

You’ll need to be a pro at fluffing and folding. But otherwise, it can be one of the easiest side hustles for moms.

60. Earn passive income investing

Investing is something anyone can do, even if you’re a busy mom.

And when you invest money in dividend stocks, mutual funds or exchange-traded funds, you can earn an income on autopilot. This could be the perfect side hustle for moms who know a thing or two about the market!
